Official Handover Ceremony for the Results of the Feasibility Study on the Modernization and Expansion Project of the National Museum of Cambodia
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Her Excellency Academician Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, attended the official handover ceremony for the results of the feasibility study on the “Modernization and Expansion Project of the National Museum of Cambodia.” The event was held under the presidency of His Excellency Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Prime Minister’s Office Minister, and His Excellency Olivier Richard, Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The ceremony took place at the National Museum of Cambodia with approximately 30 distinguished guests in attendance.
Her Excellency the Academician Minister considered this project a testament to the deep bond of friendship and cultural cooperation between Cambodia and France, built on a foundation of long-standing history and a shared commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
It is worth noting that this project began to take shape following the recommendations and long-term vision of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Samdech Hun Sen at the end of the 6th mandate, as well as following the summit between the leaders of the Cambodian government and the President of France. Subsequently, the project received support and principle approval for implementation from Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, alongside valuable support from His Excellency Vongsey Vissoth, Permanent Prime Minister’s Office Minister. It was in this context that the feasibility study for the “Modernization and Expansion Project of the National Museum” was conducted through direct collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, funded with a budget of 900,000 euros.
This vision focuses on exploring possibilities to further improve and develop the National Museum of Cambodia while preserving its historical value, enhancing its capacity to conserve and display national cultural treasures, and responding to future needs.
