National School of Fine Arts

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and with a long history, the National School of Fine Arts is the only large national art educational institution in the country that builds human capital in the field of cultural arts, which is a national identity, from the primary level (kindergarten grade 4) to the technical secondary level 6 (grade 12) with quality, competence and clear skills. The main mission of the National School of Fine Arts is to preserve, maintain, train and transfer knowledge, skills and experience in the field of visual arts and fine arts, both ancient and modern forms, with quality for future generations. From the academic year 1981 to the present, nearly 10,000 students have successfully graduated from the National School of Fine Arts, most of whom work within the framework of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts as guardians and preservers of national cultural heritage. Some are teachers in public and private educational institutions, others are non-formal artists, and some former students are continuing their studies at universities in the country and abroad.

The Training

The National School of Fine Arts offers training at the Bachelor of Arts (elementary school) and Bachelor of Arts (secondary school) levels in the following majors:

  • As Classical, Traditional Dance and Lakhon Khol
  • As Lakhon Bassac, Lakhon Yike, Lakhon Niyeay
  • As Balance, Gentleness, Troupe, and Acrobatics
  • Classical Music: As Tru Ou, Tru So, Take, Khim, Kong Thom, Kong Toch, Raneat Ek, Raneat Tung, Sra Lai, Pei Or, Beepok, Flute, Tru Khmer, Qin Diaw, Chapei Dang Veng
  • Contemporary Music: As Piano, Violin, Viola, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Cello, Flute, Double Bass, Guitar, Choir
  • Songs: Classical Songs, Folk Songs, Ayay
  • Painting: As Fine Art, Classical Painting, Printmaking, Textile Art
  • Sculpture: Printmaking, Silver Sculpture, Bronze Sculpture, Wood Sculpture, Ceramics, Ceramics

In addition to the art major, the school also incorporates the curriculum of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to provide students with opportunities to gain both general knowledge and technical skills with ethical standards in line with the progress of the national society and in response to the actual needs of the job market. Overall, students who have gone through the education and training system at National School of Fine Arts will become professional artists and fully qualified teachers who can transfer knowledge, skills, maintain, preserve and promote the national cultural heritage to continue to grow into the future.

The Vision

Looking ahead, National School of Fine Arts will transform itself into “a leading educational institution with exemplary standards and a quality and effective cultural nursery.” National School of Fine Arts is committed to continuing its mission of building human capital in the cultural sector with knowledge, know-how, ethics, and 21st century skills through strengthening governance, implementing model school standards, revising the curriculum framework, improving teacher capacity/qualification, and improving physical/digital infrastructure. Based on this spirit, National School of Fine Arts considers the dissemination of artistic and cultural knowledge and the promotion of understanding of national identity to the next generation of young people as key mechanisms and priorities in contributing to effective and sustainable human resource development in line with the Pentagon Strategy Phase 1 and the National Policy on Culture.
