Emergency Propping and Stabilization Intervention Project for Preah Vihear Temple (Phase 2)

On Monday, October 19, 2026, the Department of Conservation and Archaeology of the National Authority for Preah Vihear held a traditional ceremony to launch the Emergency Propping and Stabilization Intervention Project at Preah Vihear Temple across 29 locations. These include 10 locations at Gopura I, 8 locations at Gopura II, 2 locations along the causeway between Gopura II and III, 5 locations at Gopura III, 1 location at Gopura IV, 1 location along the causeway between Gopura IV and V, 1 location at Gopura V, and 1 location at the western Naga head support platform (Level 1 of the northern ancient staircase). It should be noted that in Phase 1, emergency propping interventions were already carried out at 23 locations spanning from Gopura I to Gopura V. The purpose of this emergency propping intervention project is to prevent the collapse and structural damage of the temple, and to protect its historical heritage value, ensuring that Preah Vihear Temple remains stable and safe prior to full restoration in the future.
