Archaeological excavations and research in Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province.
During October, a team of experts from the Department of Archaeology alongside the Angkor Borei-Phnom Da Research and Documentation Team conducted additional archaeological excavations at two locations in Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province, over a 10-day period from October 16 to 25, 2026. This excavation focused on two major sites: the interior compound of Phnom Da Temple and Tuol Yeay Put, located in Angkor Village, Preaek Phtoul Commune. The primary objective of this excavation was to gather crucial archaeological data as a key foundation for documenting and nominating this site for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Prior to concluding this research mission, the team organized a dissemination meeting on the preliminary findings for a total of 68 local leaders, authorities, youth, and students in Angkor Borei District on the morning of October 24, 2026. This event was held directly at the “Tuol Yeay Put” site in Angkor Village, Preaek Phtoul Commune, Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province. The main purpose of this event was to demonstrate the significance of the various archaeological remains uncovered by the expert team during the excavation, while raising awareness and fostering a spirit of active participation among youth and the public in preserving national heritage assets.
Detailed excavation results will be presented and published further following the completion of analytical studies and formal reporting.
