EU Ambassador Calls for Ceasefire and Peaceful Resolution Following Inspection of Preah Vihear Temple Damage
On May 7, 2026, the European Union (EU) Ambassador, accompanied by H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana, Second Vice President of the Senate, and the Ambassador of Timor-Leste, conducted a study visit to inspect the actual damage at Preah Vihear Temple. The delegation also included representatives from the embassies of China, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Laos.
During the visit, the EU Ambassador expressed deep regret over the severe damage caused to the temple by armed conflicts that occurred in July and December 2025. Consequently, the Ambassador issued a call for the respect of the ceasefire and urged for a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law.
