His Excellency Keo Kanvireak, Under Secretary of State and high representative of Her Excellency Academician Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, accompanied by His Excellency Kim Sothin, Deputy Director-General of the APSARA Authority, and representative officials from the Ministry of Tourism, paid a courtesy call and held a working discussion with Her Excellency Wu Chunhua, Vice Governor of the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, alongside leaders of other institutions. The discussions focused on key mechanisms, including:
- Strengthening and promoting arts and culture within the Mekong-Lancang region.
- Fostering people-to-people exchanges.
- Promoting cultural and artistic exchanges between indigenous groups.
- Boosting Chinese tourist growth from Xishuangbanna to visit Cambodia, especially the Angkor Wat temple region.
- Enhancing regional economic momentum by supporting working systems and commercial ties.
- Continuing to strengthen and promote Cambodia-China cooperation in alignment with the in-depth policies of both governments: the Belt and Road Initiative, the “ironclad” friendship, and the Diamond Cooperation framework.
During the meeting, His Excellency expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for consistently supporting the approval of Cambodia’s projects under the Special Fund of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework. Currently, the APSARA Authority, through the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, is actively continuing the implementation of the restoration project for the eastern terrace of Beng Mealea Temple. His Excellency expressed hope that upon the complete conclusion of Phase 2 of the project, the working team will be able to invite a delegation from Xishuangbanna Autonomous Prefecture to attend the project’s closing ceremony and tour the Angkor archaeological site, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on the alliance between Siem Reap Province and Yunnan Province. Beyond the official meeting between the Vice Governor and institutional representatives, the committee also organized a study tour for the Cambodian delegation and delegations from other Mekong-Lancang countries to explore cultural zones, eco-tourism sites, art museums, and indigenous minority villages within the Xishuangbanna Autonomous Prefecture.
