APSARA National Authority, Embassy of Japan, UNESCO, and Waseda University (Japan) Meet for Work Discussions on the Bayon Temple Conservation and Restoration Project
On June 11, 2026, H.E. Dr. Hang Peou, Director General of the APSARA National Authority, Mr. NAGASE Kensuke, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Flavio Boneti, Head of the UNESCO Phnom Penh Office, led the 1st Steering Committee Meeting of the JASA Project. This collaborative initiative between the APSARA National Authority, the Embassy of Japan, UNESCO, and Waseda University is funded by a $900,000 (nine hundred thousand US dollars) grant from the Government of Japan through UNESCO. This inaugural meeting aimed to organize the project framework for implementing the Bayon Temple conservation and restoration program, focusing specifically on researching the bas-reliefs of the Bayon galleries, training experts, and transferring comprehensive data gathered from past operations at Bayon and other temples by the project team.
