Cambodia Asian Film Festival (CAFF) Officially Becomes the Phnom Penh International Film Festival (PPIFF)
On 28 August 2026, a press conference was held at the Steigenberger Hotel, Morgan Building, Koh Pich, Phnom Penh, to officially announce the renaming of the Cambodia Asian Film Festival (CAFF) to the Phnom Penh International Film Festival (PPIFF), marking a new chapter for Cambodia’s film industry. The event brought together representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, the Festival Organizing Committee, artists, filmmakers, members of the press, and distinguished national and international guests.
H.E. Hab Touch, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, representing H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, highlighted the remarkable journey of the Cambodia Asian Film Festival, which has been developing for more than five years. Following the establishment of the Festival Organizing Committee in 2019, under the leadership of Ms. Hong Li, chairwoman of organizing committee, and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Festival has successfully been organized four times in Phnom Penh. The Festival has also organized a number of important film and cultural exchange activities between Cambodia and China, including film cultural exchange programs in Phnom Penh, Hangzhou and Xiamen, as well as China Film Week in Cambodia. In 2025, the Organizing Committee also facilitated the signing of an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the China Film Administration on cooperation in the field of cinema. H.E. Hab Touch emphasized that these achievements have laid an important foundation for the Festival’s next stage. The transition to PPIFF represents a broader international vision, opening the Festival to films, filmmakers, producers, artists and film professionals from around the world. The Festival will further promote creativity, cultural diversity, international cooperation, investment, co-production, cultural exchange and film tourism, while strengthening Cambodia’s position as an attractive destination for international film production.
H.E. Kuch Pannhasa, Secretary of State, Ministry of Tourism, reaffirmed the Ministry’s support and commitment to coordination and cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions, local authorities and the private sector to ensure that film productions and international events in Cambodia are carried out smoothly, efficiently, safely and securely.
H.E. Tema Vichekal, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh Capital Administration, congratulated the Festival on its official renaming and expressed her strong hope that PPIFF will continue to serve as a strong cultural bridge connecting Cambodia with the international film community, while providing a valuable platform to showcase creative works and create new opportunities for the next generation of filmmakers, artists and arts workers. She also emphasized the importance of young artists understanding their cultural roots and national identity, so that Cambodia’s ancestral heritage can be protected and its magnificent legacy elevated even further on the international stage.
