His Excellency Hei Virak, representing Her Excellency Academician Phoeurng Sackona, visits ailing Elder Khy Mom.

On the evening of Tuesday, September 29, 2026, His Excellency Hei Virak, Director of the Department of Cultural, Religious, and Historical Movement Promotion and Head of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) Working Group for Culture and Fine Arts, as the high representative of Her Excellency Academician Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, visited Elder Khy Mom, who is currently undergoing medical treatment and recovery at her residence in Ta Ke Village, Sangkat Kamboul, Khan Kamboul, Phnom Penh.

On that occasion, His Excellency and the working group conveyed warm greetings and wishes from His Excellency Hun Mani, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, and Her Excellency Academician Phoeurng Sackona, while presenting fruits and financial assistance provided by Her Excellency Academician to the elder artist to help ease her hardship during treatment.

This visit demonstrates the care and attention of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts toward artists and senior art masters through support during times of illness, serving as encouragement and recognition for artistic contributions that have helped preserve, conserve, and promote national culture.

Elder Khy Mom is a veteran art master specializing in Yike theater and an accompanying vocalist for the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, possessing immense talent and extensive experience in Khmer arts. In 1963, she gained renown as a female lead in Yike performances alongside her younger brother Khy Pov, leading to an invitation from Her Majesty Queen Sisowath Kossamak Nearirath Serey Vathana to perform inside the Royal Palace.

In 1979, she reassembled family members to re-establish a Yike theater troupe. Between 1980 and 2010, she served as an instructor of Yike drama at the Royal University of Fine Arts and trained students at Cambodian Living Arts. Through her creative career and dedication to training younger generations, she has played a vital role in preserving, conserving, and passing on traditional Khmer performing arts.

Currently, Elder Khy Mom is receiving medical treatment and recovering her health at home.
